Here is my vote on the key bus reform consultation questions.
Q8. Overall, to what extent do you support or oppose the introduction of the Proposed Franchising Scheme? Support. Q8.1. Why do you say this? I think buses are too unaccountable. Private bus companies don't have a responsibility to their passengers, just to their shareholders. Franchising means that decisions are made through our local authorities who we hold accountable through our elections and other forms of scrutiny.

<div class="markdown prose w-full break-words dark:prose-invert light">We need to have more participation in what decisions get made over our buses. Only local people will know the ins and outs of what services are needed to get more people using the bus. Whatever decision-making bodies the mayor makes should have representatives from disability groups, bus workers, and the general public 
In Germany, 88% of local transport journeys are on publicly owned operators, including most bus journeys. It's seen as commonsense abroad, even though they have universal public control. We should follow their lead and have public ownership to lowers costs and increase quality.
We can't deliver a world-class bus network with out enough bus drivers. A lack of drivers created a recent and on-going reliability crisis. We need to drive up their pay and conditions and make sure they have job security when franchise contracts change hands. The best way to do this is to have them in council employment. Tracy talked about Direct Labour Organisation before she was elected, this would be the perfect time to include this.
