Mark Harper: Don't stop with taking TPE into public ownership

The government has taken TransPennine Express into public ownership.

Over 8000 We Own It supporters emailed Transport Secretary, Mark Harper, a few months ago to demand he takes TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast into public ownership. This is an incredible win for public pressure!

Now let's demand that he take Avanti and the rest of our railway into public ownership.

I am writing to thank you for your recent decision to take TransPennine Express into public ownership. 
Your decision will have a HUGE impact on our lives - those of us who depend on TPE to get to work and be with loved ones, as well as the many of us that pay for the railways through our taxes and more. 
Well done! But I want you to go further.
<a href="https://www.survation.com/new-poll-public-strongly-backing-public-ownership-of-energy-and-key-utilities/">67% of the public</a> in We Own It’s latest poll (We Own It/Survation 2022) want our whole railway system in public ownership, including 63% of 2019 Conservative voters.
And with <a href="https://twitter.com/steveakehurst/status/1654450370221948928?s=46">voters identifying</a> the poor state of our public services among the top reasons they switched their vote from Conservatives to other parties in this local election, this decision could go a long way to show you are serious about public services that work for people, not private profit.
3 out of the 4 Conservative transport secretaries in the last 5 years have taken a rail line operated by the private sector into public ownership. This shows a clear and pragmatic recognition that the privatisation experiment in our railways is failing. 
I am asking you to take the rest of our railway into public ownership and invest in it so that it is fit for passengers and for the future. 
The core contracts for the following railway lines are scheduled to end this year: CrossCountry (15/10/2023) and Avanti West Coast (15/10/2023). Please start by bringing them into public ownership.
It is time to put people before profits in our railways again.
